Major Hoops and Gus Macker Hit the Streets of Olean

OLEAN -- Gus Macker 3-on-3 Basketball, America's largest outdoor basketball will be held in , Olean June 2-4, 2023. The 3-day event, organized by the Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce, is open to players of all ages and experience levels who are computer-matched by age, height and experience so that all participants can be competitive. The event, first held in Lowell, Michigan in 1974, is a family festival with food and music along with the basketball competition.
LOCATION -- Courts will be positioned on Delaware Avenue and North Barry Street, with food and retail vendors setting up in the Olean Center Mall/Key Bank parking lot.
STREET CLOSURES -- Delaware and North Barry will be closed to traffic Thursday, June 1. They will reopen late Sunday, June 4. Detours and road-closed signs will be posted.
DUDE, WHERE'S MY COURT (AND MY GAME)? -- The top men's court will be at the intersection of North Barry and Delaware Avenue. The Dream Court will be located between Key Bank and the Olean Center Mall. A full list of brackets and a map is available at www.macker.com.
DREAM COURT – The Dream Court will return for its fifteenth year appearance at the Olean Macker. The Dream Court is a specially-designed red, white and blue All-American themed court with a synthetic court surface, like the Top Men’s and Women’s Courts. Color commentators announce games on the Dream Court. Teams are selected at random to play on the court.
ACCOMMODATIONS – For those coming from a distance and need accommodations, Gus Macker Olean’s official accommodations are with Hampton Inn & Suites by Hilton. Awake each morning at the Hampton Inn to free continental breakfast, work out in their fitness center, take a dip in their heated indoor pool, and enjoy your modern room, equipped with free WiFi. Handicapped-accessible rooms are available. The Hampton Inn is located 1.1 miles away from Gus Macker Headquarters in Olean.

MEDICAL STAFF -- The medical ‘tent’ will be located near the Gus Macker Threads by Gus retail store. The medical staff will be available throughout the tournament. The City of Olean EMS will be on site throughout the weekend for transport. Both players and fans are encouraged to stay hydrated through the weekend.
REGISTRATION – Team registration will take place from 4 - 7 PM at the Covered Wagon Offices, 502 North Barry Street, Olean. The Gus Macker Olean committee encourages all local players to register Friday. Saturday registration continues from 7 AM - Noon.
DIRECTIONS TO OLEAN...
From the East – take I-86W to exit 26. Turn right off ramp, which is North Union Street Extension. Please proceed through the first two round abouts and you have arrived in Mackerville!
From the West – take I-86E to exit 25. Turn left off ramp, take Buffalo St. to North 12th Street. At the T-intersection with West State Street, turn left. Please go 11 blocks and at intersection/roundabout with Route 16, please take the turn onto North Union (left). Proceed through the three round abouts and you have arrived in Mackerville!
From the North – take Rt. 16S, becomes N. Union St. upon entering Olean. Mackerville!
From the South – take Rt. 16N, becomes S. Union St. upon entering Olean, Continue past the four corners (Rt. 16 and Rt. 417 cross) where road becomes N. Union St. Mackerville!
PARKING -- Parking is available in the following locations: Olean Center Mall; lots on Wayne Street; Jamestown Community College (North Union Street and in lots behind campus); and City lots (off West Sullivan).
MORE THAN JUST BASKETBALL -- The Gus Macker is more than just basketball. FUNFEST--Olean Gus Macker has scheduled Friday, June 2 as a FunFest. The Sponsors Corporate Cup is for all sponsors who would like to participate in a mini 3 on 3 basketball tourney. The players on your team must be actual employees (or spouse), and consist of at least 2 females. Registration begins at 5:30 PM, games starts at 6 PM. Last year’s corporate sponsor tournament winner was a team from the Bysiek CPA. Who will have the bragging rights this year?
The FunFest will also include food concessions, the referee meeting, and basketball. All courts (besides the ones used for the Sponsors Tournament) will be open - bring your basketball down and your game!
