HOBBS, NM A MACKER TOURNAMENT OR A FAMILY FESTIVAL- WHY NOT BOTH?

The year 2015 was a big year in basketball for Hobbs, NM. The Hobbs High Eagles brought home their 17th State Championship banner following in the tradition engrained into the community of the “full court press” first implemented by famed Coach Ralph Tasker. Press equals pressure. Hobbs is used to it; pressure is what fuels the main economic driver of oil & gas industry for the community. Pressure also comes in the form of desert heat in the summer. As economic developments change in the community, the way we recreate does as well. Hobbs, NM is always up for the challenge! Hobbs is also up for change.

In 2015, the Gus Macker Tournament moved from the heat of summer to the spring, taking an April date. The event also moved physically to the downtown area of Hobbs, with an event that featured not only great 3 on 3 basketball. The goal was to reach even more of the community in the new convenient location of downtown Hobbs, NM. With the added music concerts, a mud volleyball tournament, talent show, antique car exhibition and delicious food court area. The newly named Hobbs Downtown Slam & Jam was born!

This year’s main events are sure to please the whole family with great family fun, entertainment and sporting events insuring excitement the player and spectator alike!
